Black coffee

Today I was reminded of the fact that a moka pot needs attention. Otherwise things go wrong…

I was just chatting away with my next door neighbor who was outside cutting the hedge. I totally forgot I had a moka pot on the stove! When I got back into the house it smelled of smoke. The molten handle was still dangling from the pot when I entered the kitchen. This Brikka just died, I thought. But later on, when it was cooled down, the bottom appeared still flat. Which is a good sign. Let’s start by cleaning the black grime from the inside of the pot. And perhaps jigsaw a new handle…

Luckily I also have a 4 cup Bialetti Brikka, so I can still have my moka espresso today. Pfew.
